Pause For A Moment. Now Breathe.

Take a deep breath in.

Count to five.

One. Two. Three. Four. Five.

Now exhale.

Count to five again.

One. Two. Three. Four. Five.

And pause.

Focus on your breathing.

Feel your chest expand and contract.

Focus on those movements.

In and out. In and out. In and out. In and out.

Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out.

Hey! You’re okay.

Trust me. You’re okay.

I know that it’s difficult; the constant chatter of your mind.

I know you’re tired; of the dark thoughts and the constant fear.

I know you’re scared; of being hurt, yet again, by another person you trust.

But, it’s okay. You’re okay.

Right now, in this very moment, no matter where you are or what you’re doing, you’re okay.

And if you’re not okay, then I want you to believe that you will be okay.

Without darkness, there can’t be light.

When there’s sunshine, you can’t see the stars shine bright.

Just remember, you are in control.

You are capable.

You are okay.

This too shall pass.

It’s okay to be anxious.

It’s okay to be scared.

It’s okay to be skeptical.

It’s okay to be vulnerable.

It’s okay to be you; whoever you are.

Don’t be your biggest enemy.

Don’t be so harsh on yourself.

Don’t push away the people who love you.

Don’t let your demons take control of your life.

Take back control! You can!

I believe in you.

I’m just as scared as you.

I’m just as anxious as you.

I’m just as vulnerable as you.

But in this moment, we’re together in this fight; bound by invisible strings that connect our souls.

And we’ll be okay.

If not today, tomorrow.

Until then, let’s pause for a moment and take a long, deep breath.

And as we exhale, let’s remember the moments that matter.

Think about the time you spent chatting with your mom.

Think about the time you had a heart-to-heart with your dad.

Think about the moment where you were belly laughing with your best friend.

Think about the moment when you greedily gobbled down your favourite dessert.

Think about the moment when you kissed your partner for the first time.

Think about the moment you got that much awaited raise at work.

Think about all those moments, big and small, that make your life more meaningful.

And remember those moments when you think you’re losing the fight with your mind.

Let your memories guide you to safety.

Let your memories guide you to happiness.

Let your memories be your shield against the Dementors in your mind.

Fight; cause it isn’t over.

And when you’re tired, worn from battle, marred by scars; just breathe.

Pause for a moment. And then, breathe.

You will be okay.

If not today, tomorrow.

A Hint of Wisdom #lettertoself

Dear Rukmani,

Sometimes the thing you need to get yourself into a better mindset is a little change. Welcome it, allow it to help you grow. ~Anonymous

Change, the one constant in all our lives; the one you’ve been maneuvering around for over a decade.

So much has changed hasn’t it?

Life. Work. Friends. You.

A long and tiring journey; but, one that’s been so worth it.

Over the last 1.5 years, you’ve loved, lost, discovered, forgotten and experienced a multitude of wonderful and horrific things.

You could say that life has taken a complete 360 degree shift altogether.

And through those moments, good and bad, you’ve had so many epiphanies.

Being Woman

Peace amidst the roaring sea. Picture Courtesy: Hormaz Fatakia

Amidst the dark clouds,

She shines bright like the sun.

As the breeze wafts,

Through her silky hair,

And the sea roars,

She stands tall,

Unafraid, self-assured.

She is strength,

She is love,

She is joy,

She is tranquillity.

Fearful, yet brave,

Scared, yet courageous,

Vulnerable, yet open.

She wears many hats,

A friend,

A sister,

A daughter,

A lover,

A goddess.

She is persistence,

She is tenacity,

She is endurance,

She is commitment.

She is a woman,

Above and beyond,

Your wildest imagination.

Missed Opportunity – Part 2

Note: If you’d like, listen to Ed Sheeran‘s cover of “Make it Rain” while reading. You’ll get a different feel of the story.

Pia and Karan were both slightly flushed from the hug.

Feet shuffling, eyes down, Pia stood in place for a few seconds.

Meanwhile, Karan stood with his hands in his pocket and a tiny grin spread across his face.

Realising they were still standing in the hallway, Pia said, “Hey! Why are we standing in the hall? Come in!” and walked ahead. Quietly, he followed her in. They walked past the living room into her tiny bedroom.

Missed Opportunity – Part 1

*Beep* *Beep* *Beep*

The alarm started to ring loudly, just as the clock struck 10.

Sleepy and cranky, Pia pulled her phone out from beneath her pillow and hit snooze. With a satisfied smile, she returned the phone to its hiding spot and snuggled into her pillow.

30 minutes later the alarm buzzed again.

Pia slid her hand underneath her pillow, groping for her phone. Seconds later, her hand brushed the hard, outer cover of her phone and she pulled it out in a flash. In an automatic gesture, she hit snooze yet again.

This time though, she peeked at the time.

“10:30 am”

Her screen displayed brightly.

Groaning loudly, Pia thought, “Shit. He’ll be here in 90 minutes. Get up! Get up! Get up!”

It’s half past seven,

As light seeps in to the room,

Rays of sunshine enter,

Through lace rimmed curtains.

This sudden intrusion,

Makes her stir in her sleep,

A second later,

She turns her body,

First to the left,

Then to the right,

As consciousness,

Waits on standby,

For the right moment,

To seize her mind.
