Goal Setting For 2017

Every New Year’s Eve I make resolutions that I never follow through. I guess that’s why I haven’t made a single resolution this year.

Last night I was wondering whether it was possible to accomplish a new year resolution. The answer – maybe.

So, will I be making any resolutions this year? No, I won’t.

However, I have decided to set goals for myself. I’m not setting huge goals that I cannot accomplish. Instead, I’ll be focusing on smaller goals that can be conquered.

These are the 10 goals that I have set for myself this year:

1. Find a job & give it my 100%

I’m sure that we all have high hopes of landing that dream job. I do and I still haven’t found it. This year I want to find a job that’s different from what I’ve done so far. I want a job that challenges me and pushes me to give it my all.

When I do land a job this year, I’m going to give it my 100%. I will ensure that I attempt to enjoy what I’ll be doing before I decide it’s not right for me.

2. Keep getting fit & healthier

I’ve been focusing on my fitness and health these last few months. I want to continue working on this.

It’s extremely important that I hit my weight goal this year. I also want to continue working on myself both mentally and physically.

My mantra for this year is to do all things in moderation.

3. Travel to a new city

I’ve always considered travel to be an important aspect of my life. My passport is my most treasured possession.

In 2017, I want to travel to a new city either within the country or outside it. I want to explore new places, meet new people and find my happy place.

4. Manage stress better

2016 was an extremely stressful year for me. I’ve had multiple panic attacks, loads of anxiety and bouts of depression.

This year, I want to focus on being calm, letting go and reaching out more whenever I’m stressed.

5. Read atleast 2 books a month

I love reading, but I haven’t sat down with a good book in a long time. This year, I want to cultivate the habit of reading.

My goal is to read atleast 2 new books every month. I hope to do book reviews as well, but that’s more of an aspiration than a goal.

6. Learn to forgive myself

Over the years I’ve been extremely critical of myself. I’m my worst critic and a harsh one at that. I’ve held on to so much anger over things that were and weren’t under my control.

In 2017, I want to forgive myself for all that has happened. I want to build myself up, be more confident and become the best version of myself.

7. Work on my blog & instagram profile

Writing and photography are two things I’m extremely passionate about.

I want to work on my writing and be a better writer, which in turn will reflect on this blog. I hope to create a special space for my writing in ‘Pensive Musings.’

When I created my instagram profile last June, I was super excited. I’m very particular about what I post and don’t post pictures just for the heck of it.

In 2017, I hope to share more personal & impactful photo stories on instagram.

8. Learn something new

I’m a person who gets extremely irked if I sit idle for too long. I always want to be working on something. I’ve learnt to make jewellery, to create glass paintings and even tried to learn French.

This year I want to learn something new, whether it’s a new language, arts & crafts or even a subject like psychology.

9. Be a better listener

If you asked my friends about me, they’d say that I love to talk. Infact, it’s difficult to get me off the phone once I’m having a conversation that flows.

This year I want to talk less and listen more. I want to know more about the other person and listen to what they have to say.

10. Save money

I’ve been working professionally for just over two and half years. To this date, I haven’t saved up for a rainy day.

I want to start saving a small sum every month this year and set it aside for emergencies. This will also help me start thinking about investments that I want to make in the long-term.

So, these are my ten goals for the year and I hope to achieve every single one by the end of the year. Wish me luck!
